CAREI was awarded  a $3.2 million award from the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to participate in a Random Control study as a provider of professional development and technical assistance  to implement a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) designed to improve reading achievement for students in Grades 1 and 2.  CAREI will work with 50 schools around the country to:

  • Provide explicit  and differentiated universal reading instruction to all students
  • Implement an evidence-based supplemental intervention for at-risk students.
  • Implement universal screening and progress monitoring assessments.
  • Develop an infrastructure to support school-wide implementation.

The results of this study will be disseminated nationally by the Institute for Education Sciences to help inform implementation of the MTSS framework.  CAREI Director, Kim Gibbons is the principal investigator of this grant.
